I’m writing an essay about why VR failed to acheive widescale acceptance
despite abnormally high levels of media hype and prophesizing, based on a
conversation I had with my boss the other night when he drove me home. If you
have anything to contribute to the project, please mail me.

Bell Scheme
November 28th, 2000 · No Comments · Uncategorized
So a representative from Bell called me this evening during dinner,
uninvited, offering to provide me with a service that would help me screen
out uninvited calls (like those that happen during dinner).
The irony, I think, can’t possibly elude them.

Snow.
November 20th, 2000 · No Comments · Uncategorized
I got a message this evening from a buddy of mine in Waterloo, who is clearly
suffering from some kind of severe mental illness.
“We’re having the kick-assiest snowstorm ever!!!” he writes, obviously
suffering from a delusion that snow is a desirable substance.
Snow is evil. And heinous. And wrong. It should be banned. I’m on the next
plane to [...]

Mountain Climbing
November 19th, 2000 · No Comments · Uncategorized
Spent yesterday climbing the Eardley Escarpment to check out the damage that
a recent forest fire had done. Surprisingly, the fire had destroyed very
little.
All around were round patches of char and ash, but for the most part all the
healthy trees were in great condition. It was as though only the underbrush
had caught fire, and left the [...]

First week of work
November 19th, 2000 · No Comments · Observations
This was my first week of work at Arius 3D, and unfortunately, because Lunar Bovine was down I couldn’t give you a moment-by-moment play to let you know what was happening. Here’s a quick summary.
The building I’m in, the Visual Information Technology building which is chock full of the coolest gizmos I’ve ever had the [...]

A boy and his VAX
November 9th, 2000 · No Comments · Observations
This is a picture of me with one of the supercomputers in my collection. Specifically it’s a Vax8530, which is about the size of three refrigerators. It’s in the process of being converted into furniture right now.
The MicroVax 2000 that we have is being set up to run a weather simulation, and the [...]

(Second) Last day of work.
November 9th, 2000 · No Comments · Uncategorized
So, today’s pretty much my last day at SchoolNet, (Barring tomorrow, which
I’ll admit to essentially being a write-off now that I’ve closed all my files
up)and I’ve gotten everyone up to speed.
And for the first time I’m feeling a bit of anxiety about this whole thing.
Yike. Eeeee-yikes.
Apart from the anxiety, everything looks golden. Jason’s Life: Act [...]

Potato Glue
November 7th, 2000 · No Comments · Uncategorized
I made a pretty awful mess of the dinner I cooked this evening.
Be warned. Using a Braun Hand Blender to excess on your whipped potatoes
causes them to take on the properties of children’s white glue.
Just a thought: Doesn’t “Hand Blender” sound like a bad name to you?

Charlie’s Angels
November 7th, 2000 · No Comments · Review
I went and saw Charlie’s Angels today. If it wasn’t the incredible amount of media hysteria, cheap ticket Tuesdays and gratuitous shots of Cameron Diaz shaking her booty were probably a factor.
It was a lot of fun. I’m sure I’ll be embroiled in discussions over the next few weeks about whether the women in Charlie’s [...]

Another productive day.
November 6th, 2000 · No Comments · Observations
So, today I’m pretty happy.
I made plans to start cooking more often. I cooked up some pasta this
evening, and I saw that it was good. Let there be dinner guests, I
proclaimed.
I think I did a really nice painting this evening. The further I stand away
from it, the less I hate it. I think that’s a [...]
