Boys are back in town

February 24th, 2001 · No Comments · Observations

So I’m back in town for the weekend before I hop off to American Fork, Utah,
to train a bunch of laser-scanning newbies. I’m pretty pumped after training
in Toronto, I had an awesome class.
Meanwhile, I’m taking advantage of the few days rest I have in my own warm
bed back in Ottawa.
*laugh* I wish! I’m [...]

Superluminous underwear

Is it just me, or does anyone else read the “FTL” Fruit of the loom acronym on their underwear as “Faster Than Light”?
Am I a geek?

Ponderances

February 20th, 2001 · No Comments · Observations

I keep finding my thoughts drifting lately, exploring philosophical
possibilities in my mind’s eye, and dredging up a lot of questions about the
nature of a good many things.
If anyone has any answers to my questions, feel free to drop me a line. In
the meanwhile, I’ll continue to ruminate over the purpose of my life.
Strangely enough, all [...]

Cat came back

February 20th, 2001 · No Comments · Uncategorized

I always manage to find a way home. I’m quite proud of myself. I can wander
through the streets of a city I don’t know (note for future reference:
Missassauga is not a town to wander around looking for a bus in. It’s rather
large.) and two or three hours later, after suffering only mild hypothermia,
manage to wander [...]

Missaussaga Playdium

February 19th, 2001 · No Comments · Uncategorized

I spent a day at the Playdium in Missassauga, and it was as cool as I’d
expected. Unfortunately the only reason I had to go there, the Reboot ride,
wasn’t working. Ho hum. There’ll be another day, I’m sure.

It was packed with little kids, but there were still some games free. Thanks
to a few minutes [...]

One week of teaching

February 18th, 2001 · No Comments · Uncategorized

It’s been one full week in Mississauga, and I’m still alive and well.

This whole teaching thing has been a wonderful experience, I think I’ve
really found my calling.

Missasauga

February 13th, 2001 · No Comments · Uncategorized

I’ve arrived safely in Missasauga after a plane flight out to the Toronto
suburb where I’ll be living for the next three weeks.

The architecture of this place is bizarre. There are billions of cloned
factory-pressed homes arranged around symmetrical curvy streets, all linked
to Strip-mall framed main streets that approximate a giant homogenous grid.

I’ve settled into my room, [...]

Diamond Age, ruminations, mindstorm

February 7th, 2001 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Reading Diamond age was a very very bad idea, I’ve discovered, as now that
I’ve read the book from cover to cover I’m stuck with a million -ideas- in my
head, that I’m ruminating over uncontrollably.

Like I don’t have enough of my -own- ideas bothering me, I need someone
else’s. Neal Stephenson! Curse you for being [...]

Becoming Literate Again

February 6th, 2001 · No Comments · Uncategorized

I have a horrible confession to make. The last time I read a book, a piece of
fiction, for pure self-gratifying entertainment, was a very long time ago.
That’s not to say I don’t read, I get my daily dose of words through magazine
articles, newspapers (when I feel like being misinformed) and the plethora of
news websites I [...]

Slimy hands, bowling messiah

February 4th, 2001 · No Comments · Uncategorized

I don’t know what the surface of a bowling ball looks like under a
microscope, but I’m guessing it looks a lot like the exxon valdez oil spill.
I went out bowling yesterday afternoon, and came home with slick hands,
despite having washed them three times. Even this morning, my fingers were
sliding off the keys as I responded [...]
