Sim Disaster

September 25th, 2001 · No Comments · Observations

Last night I was up playing SimCity 2000 till 4 in the morning. I’d finally broken free of debt on the hardest setting, my city was prospering, and I’d begun saving to buy a top-notch football stadium for my invisibly tiny citizens, and then the worst Simulated Disaster in recorded history struck.
EARTHQUAKE STRIKES COBILLVILLE
Not 1, [...]

And there goes Jay’s little bubble of relative contentedness.

Think think think think think. What to do, what to do…

Blowing off Steam

September 19th, 2001 · No Comments · Uncategorized

So my system at work got trashed thanks to the Nimda virus. Didn’t even have
a chance. I had all the code red patches, I’m behind a firewall, I didn’t
click on any e-mails inviting me to look at snow white, it somehow managed to
get behind the firewall and attacked my machine over a lunch-hour. In the [...]

Bacteria

September 16th, 2001 · No Comments · Uncategorized

My bac-teria and your bac-teria were
hang-ing out the clothes,
my bac-teria punched your bac-teria right
in the nose.
What colour were the clouds?

Got some new fish today in the fish store. I’m becoming a fish addict. Funny
how the water always clouds up a little as the water gets mixed. Just subtle
subtle differences in the concentrations of bacteria can [...]

Taking a bite out of crime

“So, if you get mugged or anything on the way home, give me a call.” – John

So it’s 2:30 in the morning, and I’m wandering home, and as I’m approaching
the corner of Booth and Somerset I can hear this banging noise. Someone’s
banging and kicking and prying at a drugstore door with a peice of metal.
Now, [...]

Wasn’t sure when

September 15th, 2001 · No Comments · Observations

Wasn’t sure when I was supposed to post again. Broadcasting the little trivial details of my day to day life seemed almost… I dunno, offensive in light of recent world events. I cancelled piano class (but my piano teacher was pretty upset about all of this too, so it was a mutual cancellation) and haven’t [...]

United States Today

Wow.

I feel really really bad that something like this can happen.

It’s been more than 12 hours since the first plane crash, and I’m very very
screwed up feeling still.

To all the americans I know, my condolances go out to you.

Euphoria Redux

So I’m compleletly completely releived to find out that not only did all of
the pictures develop, some of them are actually good!

I’m thrilled! Euphoric again! WHEEEE!!

I’ll post them online (or a link to them) once I get permission from the
band.

I suspect this sort of thing may start happening on a regular basis. That was
a really [...]

Ottawa Bars

September 8th, 2001 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Just a side-thought: Although the anti-smoking laws in Ottawa bars are a
little draconian, and although I have mixed feelings about the right for the
municipality to control smoking in bars…

Is is -SO- nice to come out of a bar at 1:00 in the morning and your
hair, and your clothes, and your skin don’t smell like someone’s [...]

Taking pictures of a band in a concert hall with no flash is positively the
most difficult challenge I think a photographer can ever face, apart from
maybe taking pictures of sharks or angry bears or something. If what I
did -worked-, then I am a -master- of photography and will continue to throw
myself in over [...]
