Taking pictures of a band in a concert hall with no flash is positively the
most difficult challenge I think a photographer can ever face, apart from
maybe taking pictures of sharks or angry bears or something. ;) If what I
did -worked-, then I am a -master- of photography and will continue to throw
myself in over my head. If what I did -didn’t- work and all I got were
colourful smudges, then I’m going to try again regardless. ;)

Once I see the pictures, if they’re half decent, I’ll write up a tutorial on
the web… I went looking for help and there was very very little available
out there. The dude at the photo store was pretty cool, he had lots of advice
to dispense from having done it.

Getting into the bar was cool. I flashed my camera to the bouncer to clear
that it was okay to bring it in… and he waved me in. No cover. Being a
photographer has it’s advantages? :)

What’s really interesting to me is that there was another girl there with a
camera, she’s at Zaphod’s every now and then, and she stands right in front
of the pillar and takes just a couple of pictures with her old-fashioned
Nikon and a fixed-length wide-angle lens. I don’t know what she could
possibly be getting at the distance that she’s standing from the band, but
maybe she knows something that I don’t. I’m going to have to talk to her
soon. She’s very mysterious. ;)

The lighting guys were only half-helpful. When I first approached them, they
looked right at me and ignored me. :) Weird. They were busy setting lights
and all that, so I waited a bit and tried again. I asked for them to flash
the lights bright now and then… and they -kinda- did… but pretty half-
heartedly.

Anyhow, if the pictures turn out, you’ll all be the first to know. :) I’ll
post them right here!
