I went to see Ice Age on Friday, courtesy of Frantic, and thought I’d let you
all know what I thought.

Graphics-wise, there was a lot of contention among my office-mates over how
the overall look of the film came together… but my personal opinion is that
it looked pretty sweet. The look was pretty consistent, and even though they
didn’t seem to be taking themselves very seriously in the modelling (The
Sabretooth Tigers looked sorta freakish with thier distended chins…) the
animating was pretty fluid.

The movie also came under fire for their use of not-exactly realistic human
beings, and… hm. I dunno. When you compare it to Final Fantasy there’s no
question that human beings are Square’s specialty. So, the BlueSky people
used really stylized people, and for a lot of folks in the audience, that
didn’t work very well. Ah well.

It worked pretty well for me. The story was pretty good. (Not very innovative
though.. you’ll see reflections of Shrek and Monsters Inc written all over
it.)
