and I’m humming this sad Leonard Cohen song that got stuck in my head like a year ago from Shrek (Hallelujah), and stop to tie my shoe beside a Christmas tree.
I give the giant nutcracker dude a little high-five as I walk past, and wonder how anyone can like those horrible icicle string lights, when [...]

My favourite picture of my Nanny.
April 27th, 2002 · No Comments · Observations
This is my favourite picture ever of my Nanny (british for “grandmother”), which I thought I’d post today because she passed on a few days ago and I kinda felt like I should share something of her with you.
For as long as I can remember, she’s had the travel bug, and I think that much [...]

Looking out from my 22nd story balcony, this is what I see. I’ve annotated the image to highlight a number of points of interest.
Review: Panic Room
April 11th, 2002 · No Comments · Review
Mark and I ended up seeing Panic Room last night after it won on a coin toss.
Go see Panic Room just for the opening credits. There are giant copperplate-gothic names hovering over the streets of New York, casting shadows and being lit with some kind of global illumination renderer… what that has to [...]

A little egg critique.

Things I like about it:
The reflection of his toes in the floor kinda work. I’d rather have them a little less bright, but it seems the reflectance material I used was additive only.
Originally, I didn’t bother building geometry in where the benches are, so there were weird inconsistencies where his shadows fell. That’s fixed. And [...]

The Egg-Man Cometh
April 9th, 2002 · No Comments · Uncategorized

reference image I had kicking around on my desktop.
You’ll need DivX to be able to play it… most of you probably already have
it installed, but [...]

In the process of rendering out an image at work, because of an extra line in
the image definition file I ended up with 4000 temp files free-floating on
our network drives.
Then of course, having no idea I’d created them… I helped Brenda track down
the object owner. “This is an egg. This is an [...]

Airline Hostesses
April 3rd, 2002 · No Comments · Uncategorized
I think the stewardesses on last night’s Air Canada flight from Toronto to
Winnipeg were possibly the most attractive airline crew on the planet.
Of course, that has something to do with the complete lack of competition,
now that they’ve put all the other stewardesses out of business.

Happy happy Easter Easter.

Yay! Easter bunnies and ressurections and chocolate eggs!
Happy easter to everyone! I’m in Ottawa packing up the last of my things to
ship out to Winnipeg. It’s so nice to be re-aquainted with all of my things.
It’s even nicer to see everyone I left behind out here.
