Review: Panic Room

April 11th, 2002 · No Comments · Review

Mark and I ended up seeing Panic Room last night after it won on a coin toss.

Go see Panic Room just for the opening credits. ;) There are giant copperplate-gothic names hovering over the streets of New York, casting shadows and being lit with some kind of global illumination renderer… what that has to do with the movie I don’t know, but it’s the kind of thing I’d probably do in my spare time. *grin* It was very pretty. I was kindof rolling my eyes at the thought of how much money probably went into it.

Jodie Foster is awesome again, as she always is, and I couldn’t tell that through 60% of the movie she was heavily pregnant. There were a couple of good nailbiting sequences, although I found the ending a bit of a letdown.

The camera moves were what made this movie. Look for the seven minute long crazy expensive and unnecessary “flying through everything including the kettle handle” effects sequence that blew my mind. And the 60 or 70 “through-the-wall” camera moves. Just incredibly tight work.
