MEC Opened

May 31st, 2002 · No Comments · Uncategorized

The MEC (Mountain Equipment Co-op) opened two days early, so as I was walking
home today I stopped in and did a full grocery order worth of Cliff Bars.
I’m so addicted to them. They’re hiking food, these little powerbar things
that are -so- tasty and full of goodness. Mmmm mmm mmm! AHH! [...]

Tutorial Army

May 31st, 2002 · No Comments · Uncategorized

So I’m working on a tutorial for people wanting to do some rendering using
Entropy, a cool professional rendering program, and decided I’d show off some
of the stuff it can do.

One of the awesome things it can do is rendering massive massive giant
scenes… so I’m rendering an army of Boba Fetts as a challenge. [...]

Oral Surgery

May 29th, 2002 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Okay, so I got heck today already twice over this, so don’t mail me just to
lecture. But I had something weird wrong with my gums this week, and
decided to do a little inspecting around this evening, which led to an
impromptu oral surgery session.

There was only one cut I had to make, and [...]

Warning!

May 27th, 2002 · No Comments · Uncategorized

The message at the end of the American BattleBots show is: “Warning! Building
robots is dangerous, and should not be attempted by amateurs!”

!??!?! WHAT !?!??!

Bollocks! It’s bad enough they have a model girl in a low-cut shirt doing
the “technical interviews” and that there’s a trash-talking section before
every match, -and- it’s hosted by a professional wrestler… but [...]

Another Interesting Juxtaposition

May 27th, 2002 · No Comments · Uncategorized

So I was reading the National Post from last Friday, and I think it was A6 or
A8 or something had this article about these super-brilliant science geek
kids who won a bunch of awards for inventing a new star-tracking system, some
kind of DNA splicing technique, and all kinds of things.

So, it was all very hoity-toity about [...]

If I were a torturer…

May 20th, 2002 · No Comments · Uncategorized

If it were up to me to convince the captured rebels to reveal the whereabouts
of their stronghold, I’d make them all drink slurpees -really really- fast.

I took a big gulp on accident in the elevator after buying an Orange slurpee,
and for a moment I really and truly thought that my life was over. That
they’d find [...]

Victoria Day Assault on Jay’s Apartment

May 20th, 2002 · No Comments · Uncategorized

So I was roused from a pleassant dream this morning by a dump truck hinged
door slamming shut on the street below. No wait, maybe it was a gunshot?
No… it was louder. What the …

BLAMMO!*windows shake*

“Ahhh! I’m under attack! Someone’s shooting something in the
hallway!”

BLAMMO!*windows rattle harder* *Birds fly up past my window* (on the
22nd floor where [...]

Soma Radio Reunion Tour

May 19th, 2002 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Alright, two articles back I said that Soma Radio broke up… well, it turns
out that was just a vicious rumour. Soma Radio are still around and are
evolving their music style just a little.

Really, I don’t know where these rumours get started.

But another rumour has it that their new bass player is a -girl-!

Midnight Oil in Winnipeg

May 18th, 2002 · No Comments · Uncategorized

I finally, after years of missing shows because of unforseen circumstances,
managed to get to a Midnight Oil concert.

It was -awesome-. Awesome awesome awesome.

It was totally by surprise, too. I’d intended to go to a little film festival
here, and on the way there, while reading a newspaper, discovered that they
were minutes away from opening just a [...]
