Shakira the Con Girl

June 28th, 2002 · No Comments · Uncategorized

I caught a Shakira video on MuchMusic this evening, and couldn’t help but
notice that the song is a complete and utter ripoff of the Bangles’ Eternal
Flame. And just to prove it, I’m working on a mix that combines both of them,
that I’ll post.

Meanwhile, download them both and give them a listen. It’s so obvious. You
can [...]

LoverBoy

June 25th, 2002 · No Comments · Uncategorized

So, tonight I went with a gang from work to see Loverboy at the Red River Ex,
live in concert. It was like a recap of the top 10 car commercial themes
from the 80’s. Very sweet.

“Come on and TURN ME LOOSE! TURN ME LOOSE!”

I also bought rootbeer-flavoured cotton candy. Whis is pretty [...]

Don McKellar

June 24th, 2002 · No Comments · Review

I think I just realized tonight that I’m a Don McKellar fan.
I saw Exotica in Vancouver recently, and after seeing Last Night, which was possibly the greatest Canadian movie ever made, I have to say that I hold Don in a great deal of esteem. I think he’s pretty cool. I’d like to do effects [...]

A quick history lesson

June 23rd, 2002 · No Comments · Uncategorized

So, a couple of people have written to me about old music (mostly dating
around the renaissance) and about other cultures that have a bit longer-lived
musical influences. This afternoon, though, I was talking to Lisa about
something she’d read up about, the “Songs of Solomon” which are in the back
of her bible. They’re attributed to Solomon himself, [...]

If you could have any superpower…

June 21st, 2002 · No Comments · Uncategorized

I stumbled onto this page this evening that I just couldn’t beleive…
there’s this guy in Manitoba who does string shows. He sounds really cool…
he works with kids and makes littke knot animals and cat’s cradles and
stuff… which is entirely beleivable. What’s so incredibly cool is one line
on his site that makes me want to don [...]

A Third Contender!

June 18th, 2002 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Bing bing bing!

A new contender steps into the ring: Apparently Paramount is working on
their -own- surfer girl movie, called “Girl in the Curl”. The synopsis goes
like this:

“A young woman returns home after the death of her brother in a surfing
accident, and slightly to spite the wishes of her mother (who’s marrying a
new husband her daughter [...]

Surfing Flicks

June 18th, 2002 · No Comments · Uncategorized

So, two movies are being released at around the same time, about surfing.
What are the odds?

The contenders:

Blue Crush cheezy bikini-flick
starring Kate Bosworth’s bum (Or so the trailer seems to indicate, over and
over), a bunch of other girls with wet hair and no tan
lines, and Michelle Rodrigues, who kicks zombie ass. No wait, that was
Resident Evil. [...]

Laslo’s been teaching me a little Hungarian in the office. Today’s word of
the day is Pokember. Pok, meaning Spider, and Ember, meaning Man.
Friendly neighborhood Pokember.

Jay’s tongue, in slow motion

June 16th, 2002 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Very few people get to witness the splendour and majesty of the human tongue
in motion as witnessed through a slow motion camera, but in this rare
occurance, a photographer got close enough to a Jay to capture such an event
on film.

The results, clearly, are spectacular. Marvel in nature’s beauty!
