Depressed People

September 30th, 2002 · No Comments · Uncategorized

I did a quick mental count tonight, and realised that I know something on the
order of 10 or so depressed people. And there are all people who are
relatively close to me. And they have various reasons to be depressed…
don’t get me wrong, I think they all have every right to be miserable. But I
wish I [...]

Crazy Dream

September 29th, 2002 · No Comments · Uncategorized

I often have intensely vivid dreams, particularly on weekends, and people
invariably end up phoning me up and rousing me from them in such a way that
images from them get permanently fixed in my mind and I can remember sharp
details.

Last night, I (and a bunch of others) had been sucked into the newest Super
Mario game, it [...]

Fubuki Daiko

September 26th, 2002 · No Comments · Uncategorized

I went this evening to check out Manitoba’s Taiko Drumming group, Fubuki
Daiko, in their first full concert in Winnipeg in over two years. They were
incredible. Live Taiko is always so much better than listening to it on CD,
because of the showmanship of the players. It really is more like a martial
art than a performance. And [...]

Holy Crappy 3D!

September 25th, 2002 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Since the advent of television, people doing effects of any kind for
television have always had to innovate because of low budgets, little support
and short deadlines. Thus you get things like the “jar full of sparkles”
transporter effect in the oldschool Star Trek. To a certain extent, you have
to admire the folks who do effects for these [...]

Reviews

September 25th, 2002 · No Comments · Uncategorized

So, there was a preview showing of The Core in Burbank with a test audience,
and somehow or other two reviews showed up on Aint It Cool News. You can read
both the reviews by clicking Link Number One or Link Number Two.

In the second review, he specifically talks about a scene I worked on in
glowing terms, [...]

Milkdrop

September 21st, 2002 · No Comments · Uncategorized

I was talking earlier in the day with a friend at work about how I used to
set up my projector and stream winamp plugin video through it at parties…
and this evening when I got home (I was supposed to be at a party but I felt
all blah. There’s a cold going around the office and [...]

Punjabi Lesson

September 18th, 2002 · No Comments · Uncategorized

So the other day on the way out to see a movie, the Taxi driver (I usually
take a bus, but I was in a hurry to meet someone) decided to enlighten me on
some of the intricacies of telling women you want to do dirty things to them
in Punjabi.

I won’t share any of these sentences with [...]

Ears are still ringing

September 16th, 2002 · No Comments · Uncategorized

I’m not the young sprightly grasshopper I used to be… my ears are still
ringing from standing too close to the speakers at the concerts last
night. And drinking a little bit didn’t help my head hurt any less this
morning.

But I still tend to agree… if it’s too loud, YOU’RE TOO OLD!!!

After hearing [...]

Someone’s got me.

September 15th, 2002 · No Comments · Uncategorized

I have to admit that I’m impressed, someone sent me a mail today with the
subject “Test!” and a super-short body that I can’t use to identify the
writer, and the address was all goofy. So I figured I had them beat, Muah ha
ha, I’ll just trace back their IP address, and have them.

But their origin address [...]

The Mailman’s Children and The Harlots

September 15th, 2002 · No Comments · Uncategorized

So, I went out with a gang for the first time in weeks tonight, and made up
for what I was missing in spades.

The first band we went out to see at the Pyramid were The Mailman’s Children
which the drummer, Frantic Films accountant Eddie Vesely invited us to check
out. It was their new CD release party, [...]
