During a breif break in my crazily busy day today, I went out to see (free,
thanks to Lynne!) Bowling for Columbine, Michael Moore’s newest film. I’ve
always been a fan of his, and I enjoyed his TV series TV Nation immensely.
Go see it if you’re in a pensive, thinking mood. Some of what he does and
says is (as the critics have already pointed out) rather heavy-handed, and
I’ll warn you ahead of time I was quite shocked that they show people getting
shot a number of times through the movie, which I’m never good at handling.
(Even when it’s fake. I always cringe when Trinity and Neo start shooting up
the bank building.)
Sooooo, yeah. They show some pretty upsetting stuff. And about every three
seconds I think “Man, am I ever glad I live in Canada.”.
I don’t like the way he corners Charleton Heston, by the way. I think
Charleton Heston deserves to be made a fool of, but I think a) he’s really
old and can’t defend himself well and b) he was kindof lured into the
discussion unfairly.
Go see, it, but be warned. You’ll be shown lots of badness.
