I can’t -STAND- it when people skew, distort,
pinch, twist, and mutilate their images accidentally in their scanners and
post them up without correcting them. I remember seeing Tron at my aunt’s
house for the very first time, many years ago, on her broken TV, and thinking
that all the people in Tron world had heads that bent at the top of the
frame… as though their entire world existed only in the camera and it was
warped at the top like a burnt-in pacman game. Which actually lent something
to the film, I think, because seeing it many years later when they were all
bent back into normal human shapes, I felt something wanting.
But I -don’t- feel something wanting about people’s blog pictures. It’s
entirely forgivable that an image wouldn’t have a lot of contrast, or be
blurry, or be slightly fisheyed out, because I expect that of cheap cameras.
But this distortion thing… I don’t know if I should blame scanning
companies (Who for the most part make scanners that -can’t- skew images), or
Microsoft paint, or the narrowing interocular distances we’re developing
through evolution. The cycle must be broken! I’m going to undistort
everyone’s images and mail them to them.
Because I’m a freak.
