A little Zen humour

November 7th, 2002 · No Comments · Uncategorized

So, there was a very dark and moody Zen Calendar haiku tidbit the other day,
that goes like this:

Vast solitude
My thinning body
transparent autumn

The funny (???) thing about it is that to this day, looking at it sitting in
my pile of discarded calendar days, I still misread the last line
as “Transparent ALUMINUM.

This sends me into spasms of laughter, and I usually do an impression of
Scotty going “Hello, Computer!” in the Star Trek: The Voyage Home movie,
before realizing that snickering at Star Trek dark zen jokes and talking to
myself in a scottish accent is probably a bad sign in regards to my sanity.

A buddy of mine moved to town from far away, and was having trouble making
friends, so he’d spend every evening either late in the office alone, or at
home, where he admitted to me he’d often catch himself in conversation with
his mirror reflection. Which sorta freaked me out (moreso because he told me
this while driving 140 down a crowded highway) but which I’m starting to
experience firsthand. :)

Thinking out loud isn’t so much an issue, I think… but speaking about
youself in third person is probably a little loopy. Don’t you think, Jay? I
do indeed, Jay. That Jay… what a brilliant, handsome, affable guy.

Heh. :) I’m just kidding. Jeez. :)

(As a side note, I’m not actually -lonely-… in fact I spend very little
alone time actually at home. Usually I spend the time sleeping, or brushing
my teeth, and -then- sleeping.)
