Natasha and I caught a showing of “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist” on Friday night, and really enjoyed it. The music throughout the film was really great – even though I admit I’m too old to chase bands around all night, I still love discovering hipster indie music and sharing it with my friends. Watching the film brought out a sense of nostalgia – I remember a lot of late nights at Zaphods, catching cool garage band acts and following it up with strong coffee and french fries at Dunn’s. For a little while, I was extra super ultra cool, discovering bands in far-flung music halls in Vancouver and Winnipeg and Los Angeles.
We’re talking about nostalgia for a period of my life that was like, 7 years ago.
How sad that all of my coolness evaporated as soon as I turned 30! One of these days I’ll shave my beard off and go mingle with the hip kids and download all their iPod track lists.

Anyhow – the movie was excellent. Good pacing, lots of fun. Worth at least renting. I found the sex scene gratuitous – you know it’s true love when you let a veritable stranger grope around in your pants. Meh. And it’s weird that these mid-20’s actors are playing high-school kids. The dialog was really high-school, but I remember being older when I was running around downtown at 4 in the morning. Where are these kids’ parents? Won’t anyone think of the children!!!
See?
Totally uncool as soon as I turned 30!
