Curling and Crunching!

February 18th, 2009 · No Comments · Observations, Ottawa

So I went curling for the first time ever this afternoon with work, and Natasha got to come along and throw some stones down a sheet of pebbly ice with me. Initial impression is that it’s definitely more fun to play than to watch. Also, sweeping can be surprisingly tiring, especially when you’re giving it all you’re worth while sliding around on a skating rink.

I managed 2 good throws out of 16 throughout the course of the day. I wish they had a big conveyor belt (or a slope?)you could throw rocks down all day to practice on before getting into a game. I’d usually overshoot the first throw and then vastly overcompensate and undershoot the second one. Natasha was definitely more consistent, with a solid 4 or 5 in a row that put us ahead in one game enough to win.

I’m still not 100% sure how the scoring works, despite looking the rules up earlier in the game. We won 1 out of 4 matches, anyhow, or so I’m told. :) Superstars!

Also, an update to yesterday’s post, after all the skating and sweeping the past few days, I was pleased to discover that when I crunch I now have a visible 6-pack. It’s not a “300″ set of abs, but they sprayed theirs on, so I win.
