Windy Park

February 8th, 2009 · No Comments · Ottawa

Deciding we were made of tougher stuff than most, Natasha and I opted to test our winter survival skills by walking around Andrew Haydon Park knee-deep in the snow. Apart from one guy and his dog, it was a pretty desolate place. Any paths that may have been broken in the snow had long since been covered in snow drifts, and the wind coming off the river was pretty intense. Still, it was fun to take a (albeit far from leisurely) stroll around the ponds and up the little hill to get a look at the river.

At the top of the little lookout hill, we caught a view of this guy, scooting back and forth on his skiis with his kite pulling him. He mostly stuck to his side of the river, though – so he’s pretty tiny in the shot. It would be fun to go out on the river one day this next weekend and get some up-close action shots of the kiteskiers catching air.

Afterwards, we headed back to the car and took a drive down to Bank street to get a walk with a little less wind. Beautiful weekend for being outdoors!
