Winterlude!

February 8th, 2009 · 4 Comments · Observations, Ottawa

Natasha and I headed down to Confederation Park to check out the ice carvers working on their tasty sculptures for Winterlude. When we caught them, they were still 9 hours away from finished, but many of them tasted nearly done. I’m looking forward to going back to lick the final results!

Among the highlights was this minty one – delicious! I think it may have detected a hint of lemon, too…

There was a lineup to lick this one, but it was disappointingly “Mermaidy”. Kindof had a fishy aftertaste. It looked pretty good, though!

I heard once the competition is over they bring out a woodchipper and make free sno-cones for everyone!

Wait… so everyone licks the same ice sculptures? And this is part of the point of the event? How delightfully communicable! (I don’t think I could bring myself to participate in that…)

Jason! You should have put some sort of indication in your post that you’re just joking. I’m sure we’ll get some nasty letter of warning from the NCC, who puts on the event! And next year they’ll post warning signs around the place, “Please refrain from licking the sculptures”. The NCC PR dept. has RSS feeds on Google Wintertude info, you know!

Don’t worry Sara! They spray them down every night with a wash of Listerine and Turpentine – so next morning they’re crisp and delicious and ready for more hungry visitors!

*sigh* Okay – I’m standing about 3 feet in front of that sculpture with my tongue sticking out. :)

But I bet it’s as delicious as it looks! :) Next year I’m entering the competition with a giant flavoured popsicle sculpture.
