I’m excited about the new Where The Wild Things Are movie – I’ve heard about a lot of production problems in trying to get it filmed (the first cuts were “too scary” for kids) but the trailer looks awesome and maybe it’ll turn out all right in the end. I was a big fan of [...]

Up Through the Atmosphere…
March 25th, 2009 · 1 Comment · Observations, Ottawa
Yesterday afternoon we got the call – as Greg logs hours towards his commercial pilot’s license he invited us to join him in the Cessna, flying loops around the city and mountains and taking in the sights. We left right before dusk, too, so we had a beautiful vantage point to watch the sun setting [...]

Best Sunset of the Week
March 20th, 2009 · No Comments · Observations
It’s Friday afternoon. I’ve had a crazy week at the office (crazy productive, that is) and I’m looking forward to going home, drinking a big mug of hot chocolate on the balcony and watching the sun set. If I’m lucky, we’ll get a fantastic sky like we had on Wednesday:
Click it if you want a [...]

Orthodontic Nomenclature
March 19th, 2009 · 1 Comment · Observations
So I survived another visit to the orthodontist. My teeth are on the move again and I’m back to soups for a day or two while I go through the worst of it. So far not too bad, but I needed an advil after supper to recover from eating cake.
It occured to me while I [...]

Alligator in the Mall
March 19th, 2009 · No Comments · Ottawa
On my way to buy some soup I unexpectedly stumbled upon a reptile exhibit going on downstairs this afternoon in the Westgate Mall, so I took a long look at the terrariums full of snakes and lizards. I nearly backed into a lady holding a 5 foot alligator in her arms. SO COOL. Sorry there’s [...]

The Walkerator
March 16th, 2009 · 2 Comments · Observations
The numbers keep rising on the third week as I find more ways to push my total footsteps up every day – but I think I may have hit my theoretical walking limit on Saturday, counting 24,900 steps around the Bayshore mall searching across the tops of the clothing racks for the mop of brown [...]
Hospital Visit
March 13th, 2009 · No Comments · Observations, Ottawa
We spent last evening in the hospital, having Natasha’s elbow checked out after she took a fall in the afternoon on some ice and landed squarely on her arm. I drove her to the Civic where we were checked in fairly quickly and got through triage in no time.
The wait wasn’t too bad. Nothing will [...]
Figure Drawing
March 11th, 2009 · 1 Comment · Drawing, Observations
I finally made it out this evening to a figure drawing class I’d been invited to weeks ago – Andrea suggested I might get hit by a boulder this afternoon before making it out of the office, since something seems to always come up on Wednesdays out of nowhere.
Doing figure studies was totally invigorating, though, [...]

Walkathon
March 10th, 2009 · No Comments · Observations
We’ve been wearing pedometers for nearly the past two weeks at work as part of a challenge to be aware of our activity levels and get moving. Collectively, the whole gang of us are trying to walk enough to cover the distance to Easter Island from Ottawa, and we’re well on our way in the [...]

Why I hate “Watchmen”
March 9th, 2009 · 8 Comments · Observations, Review
I feel I owe a more articulate rationale to the people wondering why I have such a bee in my shorts over this new Watchmen movie. (I had a little rant about it at a party recently, but I don’t think I explained myself well.)
Anyhow – Watchmen, with a little historical context. During the 40’s [...]
