Hospital Visit

March 13th, 2009 · No Comments · Observations, Ottawa

We spent last evening in the hospital, having Natasha’s elbow checked out after she took a fall in the afternoon on some ice and landed squarely on her arm. I drove her to the Civic where we were checked in fairly quickly and got through triage in no time.

The wait wasn’t too bad.  Nothing will seem bad after 18 hours at the Grace in Winnipeg. I think we got there at 5:30 and were in to see a doctor around 9:00, out by 10:30. It turns out we could have saved a lot of time if she’d landed on her wrist – nurses are allowed to order x-rays ahead of time for hands and wrists, but not elbows.

So the good news is that there was no detectable fracture, she just sprained and bruised it really badly. A few days in a sling and she should start feeling some improvement, with a follow-up to double-check for fractures a little later in the week at the family doctor.

For those keeping score – this is Natasha’s 4th winter in a row that she’s had a hospital visit. I’m going to build her a Nerf suit of armor. :)
