Saw a crazy accident last night while driving Natasha and her friend home from Ikea. While I was yielding to turn right from Pinecrest to Richmond, a car that was being followed by a police car charged the red heading west on Richmond and PLOWED through the back of a grey SUV that was crossing on her green light. There was a loud “SCREE – FRAPP!”, and lots of plastic and metal bits tinkled all over the intersection. Car accidents I’ve witnessed always make a surprisingly underwhelming sound for the amount of energy involved.
The offending car ran off the road and into a hedge or something on Richmond, the grey SUV was spun, then leapt the curb, and then (I realized) was headed directly for us – Natasha shouted “GOGOGO DRIVE DRIVE!” and I pushed forward into the intersection a bit to get out of the way. Near miss.
Of course, since the police were there for the whole thing the lights went on, and seconds later there were 4 cop cars there – I wonder if they were trying to set up a road block to head the guy they were chasing off on Richmond. The SUV lady seemed to be okay when I got out to check – not sure about whoever it was the cops were after. I haven’t seen a story in the news today, so I imagine nobody was hurt badly.
