Wednesday of this week Playbrains released our first console game on XBox Live Arcade, “Madballs in… Babo:Invasion“. The game’s been steadily building a community since it launched, with thousands of players already headed into the first weekend. We’re hoping it really catches fire now that the reviews are pouring in – it seems like everyone who gives the demo a try really enjoys the frenetic action and ridiculous characters.
I’ve had a ton of fun this week playing multiplayer against all the new people on XBLA. It’s been about two days and already there are droves of players shooting circles around me.
The twittersphere is all abuzz in people’s positive reactions. Even the one (only?) guy I’ve been watching who actively dislikes it can’t seem to stop playing long enough to write about something else.
The numbers really speak for themselves – I’ve seen a geometric progression in the number of people playing and hope that the word of mouth keeps it spreading. If you’ve been enjoying the game, definitely write up a review! Most of the “big games sites” are writing up articles, but the game team get really excited about getting feedback from real players.
In case you were wondering what a video game launch looks like, it’s basically lots of ravenously hungry developers clapping in anticipation of being able to eat.

That’s awesome
Congrats on your first commercial game
I’ve downloaded the demo, but haven’t had a chance to try it online yet. What’s your gamertag? Mine’s isotropy.

Finally got a chance to play madballs. I’m very impressed. It’s a well polished game, and the control is fantastic. Deathmatch style games aren’t really my style, and i’m really horrible at them, but I still had fun with the demo. Great job, and I can’t wait to see the next one

Thanks Kert!
I’m glad you enjoyed it! Lots of love went into every aspect of the game. We have a really passionate gamer community in the office that were really focused on making really interesting and polished gameplay. We have lots of things in development right now, covering a bunch of different genres. It’s an exciting time to be here!
