Grands Feux

August 4th, 2009 · No Comments · Ottawa

I’ve gotten to see way more than my fair share of fireworks this year – St. Jean Baptiste from our balcony, Canada Day when the whole neighborhood seemed to be packed with roman candles, the International Competition in Montreal was timed just right to let us catch Australia’s tremendous show from the Vieux Port, and just this weekend we saw Spain’s competitive demonstration from the shores of Lac Leamy at “Les Grands Feux“.

It was worth the $10 to get down to the shoreline to see the performance, there’s a lot of low-flying fireworks timed to the music that I missed watching it from across town in previous years. The audience was really great, too – you don’t get the horde of drunken yahoos that you get down below Parliament Hill every year on Canada Day. There’s lots of amenities on the grounds, too – gourmet food stands, a roving candy shop, giant dancing puppets, and plenty of bathrooms.

I’m way above my fireworks-watching quota if you count the ones I see whenever I kiss my wife! ;) Heh heh heh, cornball. :)
