The new management in our apartment building has decided that the new low-flow toilets we had installed last year by our previous management company had to go – not low-flow enough! So they ordered in a truckload of new toilets and installed them in a hurry – not stopping to realize that the countertop shelf that extends across our bathroom completely covers the flush button.
It would almost be a clever way to hide the flusher, except that we -use- that counterspace, so now there’s 7 feet of countertop that we have to lift in order to poop, making it kindof useless as a storage area. Nice job on cleaning up the wall barrier from the previous toilet, too. Really loving Paramount Properties so far.
Oh! And the previously new toilets? The ones we’ve only had for a year? All being smashed into a giant dumpster. Give them to habitat for humanity? At least re-sell them? No? Whatever.

I say cut the counter and add a hinge, or drill a button sized hole through the section over the toilet tank….assuming management won’t be fixing their oversight an time soon.

A friend of mine has those toilets in her building, and I have to say the push button on top is pretty cool. Of course in your situation, it’s useless. It’s pretty amazing that they didn’t foresee this being a problem; being an apartment complex you think every other unit probably has a shelf there too.
Maybe you can make a Rube Goldberg machine to do something elaborate to press the button thats under a shelf.
