Planting

May 28th, 2010 · 1 Comment · Observations, Ottawa

The May Long Weekend was the official start to our planting season. Natasha and I spent Saturday and Sunday rehabilitating our front flower bed after it was dismantled earlier in the spring by the backhoes digging up our sewer pipe. A few dozen Portulaca Grandiosas (Moss Roses), a stack of pink Petunias and a couple of Dahlias and Begonias got us started, and then two trips more to the garden center got the bed just about filled with colourful blooms.

Of course, the prettiest flower in the garden is Natasha. :) D’aawwww…

Kudos to my parents, too, for swinging by on Saturday and helping us get an early start to the planting!

A hint for anyone in Ottawa looking for great garden plants – we did a bunch of shopping at the Superstore on Merivale, but regretted waiting to pay a visit to Jardins Chartrand near to my parent’s place in Aylmer. (Oh weird – Google maps has a different name for the road it’s on than I know it.) Chartrand’s got big beautiful plants for a fraction of the price in their huge greenhouses – we got a great deal on some more flowers and our tomato plants and peppers for the vegetable garden.
