I’ve somehow gone my entire life without ever shopping on Boxing Day, but this year Natasha wanted to pick up some off-season Christmas decorations and we had to return a sweater to the mall, so we braved it. Polo Park was crazy busy. There were multiple accidents on the streets leading to the parking lot. [...]

Caught some deer out by the airport as we drove out to pick up Mom from work – and got a great panorama of Winnipeg while I was at it. Sorry if I’m reinforcing stereotypes – it’s not all fields, airports and grain elevators.

New Ottawa Humane Society Building
June 28th, 2011 · 4 Comments · Observations, Ottawa, Winnipeg
Natasha and I paid a visit to the new Ottawa Humane Society Building on Hunt Club to make some new friends, and the facility is tremendous! Big open hallways, a green exterior, and lots of communal play areas for the animals make it a huge improvement from the old building on Preston.
When we first pulled [...]

World War Z
January 5th, 2011 · No Comments · Review, Winnipeg
Weighing in at 324 pages, World War Z is an entertaining read that manages to only slightly wear out it’s fun premise – interviews with the survivors of the war against a full-on global zombie infection. Before we left Manitoba, I had a chance to finally visit the Western Canada Aviation Museum, a huge hangar full of really fantastic and well-cared-for Canadian aviation equipment, from bushplanes to fighter jets. I took a memory card full of pictures of aircraft bits – all of those open jet engines are gold for a [...]

My care package arrived

My aunt and her boyfriend drove through Winnipeg today (!!!) and after taking me out for lunch, they dropped off a vacuum cleaner that my parents had sent with them.
So now I can make -lots- of noise and have clean carpets. Which is really good, because the dust in my apartment was starting [...]

and I’m humming this sad Leonard Cohen song that got stuck in my head like a year ago from Shrek (Hallelujah), and stop to tie my shoe beside a Christmas tree.
I give the giant nutcracker dude a little high-five as I walk past, and wonder how anyone can like those horrible icicle string lights, when [...]

Winnipeg out my window

Looking out from my 22nd story balcony, this is what I see. I’ve annotated the image to highlight a number of points of interest.
